CYWX privacy policy
Privacy.
CYWX asks for no account and keeps your brief on your device. This is what the app does and does not do with information.
The short version.
There is no CYWX account. The app does not ask who you are, and we do not operate a server that stores your aerodromes, your routes or your briefs. What you retrieve stays on your device.
What stays on your device.
The aerodromes you follow, your last retrieved brief, imagery you have already loaded, and your app settings are stored on your device so the brief is readable again with no signal. Removing the app removes them.
What leaves your device.
When you retrieve a brief, your device requests it directly from the weather source. Those requests contain the aerodrome identifiers you asked for and the ordinary information any internet request carries, including your IP address. They are handled under each source’s own terms and privacy practices:
- NAV CANADA — Canadian observations, forecasts, NOTAMs, upper winds and Graphical Area Forecast imagery.
- NOAA Aviation Weather Center — United States observations and forecasts, and an automatic fallback for Canada.
We do not run a proxy, a mirror or a cache in between, so no server of ours sees which aerodromes you look at.
No tracking, no advertising.
CYWX contains no advertising and no third-party tracking software. Nothing you do in the app is used to build a profile of you or shared with data brokers.
Purchases.
If the app offers a paid subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple under Apple’s own terms. We receive the subscription status needed to unlock the paid features. We never receive your payment details.
Location.
If a version of the app offers to find aerodromes near you, it will ask for permission first, and the answer is used on your device to search the bundled aerodrome database. Your location is not sent to us.
This website.
This site is a set of static pages with no cookies and no advertising. It uses Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, which is cookieless, does not follow you to other sites, and stores no data that identifies you personally. Our hosting provider also keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
Children.
CYWX is a tool for pilots and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
